The D-35 has been a key part of the Martin line since 1965. The early models used Brazilian rosewood, but export and import restrictions moved Martin towards Indian rosewood. Now, Madagascar rosewood is available and has many of the tonal and aesthetic characteristics of Brazilian – a little more brilliance than Indian.

Inspired by great flat top guitars from the Golden Era of guitar making such as the Gibson J-45, it features an Adirondack spruce top which provides plenty of punch and crisp note fundamentals to complement the warm and sweet midrange of the mahogany back and sides. We’ve just received a shipment of Ukuleles from National ResoPhonic, and here’s a very attractive Concert size model in Hawaiian Koa. It has the stellar build quality typical of Nationals, it’s quite loud and punchy yet sweet-sounding, and the flamed Koa with wooden ‘rope’ style binding really stands out. A very cool instrument!
