Here’s a new instrument from Robert Godin’s Art and Lutherie shop – based on a stock folk style guitar, the Art and Lutherie Tres Natural Cedar QIT, in the style of a Tres Cubano.

The Art and Lutherie Tres Natural Cedar QIT is a key instrument in Cuban music. With three double courses and not generally strummed, it is used to support melody rather than rhythm. Traditionally, the Tres has been a smaller instrument, but a standard acoustic guitar can be easily adapted by altering the bridge, saddle and nut. Tuning is typically G4/G3, C4/C4, and E4/E3 or E4/E4.

There’s another advantage to adapting the traditional Tres to a stock guitar – other features, like the built-in tuner and pickup are already there!

The Art and Lutherie Tres Natural Cedar QIT is based on the Art and Lutherie Folk Cedar, which has a solid cedar top, cherry laminate back and sides, silver leaf maple neck, and rosewood for the fingerboard and bridge. The nut and saddle are Tusq by Graphtec. The finish is a semi-gloss custom varnish.

Cases are an available extra, as either a gig bag or a Tric case.
