Fender 70th Anniversary Esquire® White Blonde

The Fender 70th Anniversary Esquire reproduces one of the earliest production electric guitars, the single pickup Esquire. This seminal instrument sparked an explosion in electric guitar production, particularly solidbody guitar production. Like the original run, the Fender 70th Anniversary Esquire uses a Roasted Pine body. Pine was readily available, inexpensive and easy to work, making it ideal for development of both the guitar design and production techniques.

Fender Stratocaster Sunburst, 1958

Here we’re looking at a 1958 Fender Stratocaster in the then-new three-tone Sunburst finish, with neck and body dates of 12/58, indicating construction in December of 1958 or the beginning of 1959. In addition to the ‘new’ sunburst with the red band, the Maple neck became thinner with much less of a ‘V’ profile. From mid 1956, Fender started using Alder on sunburst-finished Stratocasters, rather than Ash. The neck remained the same, built of a single piece of Maple with a Walnut ‘Skunk Stripe’ covering the rear-mounted truss rod channel.

Fender Stratocaster HardTail Black Refinish, 1977

The Fender Stratocaster HardTail was available alongside the revolutionary and better known 1954 tremolo-equipped version, and only discontinued around 2010, due to declining sales. Many country and rhythm players preferred the Fender Stratocaster HardTail for perceived increases in ‘snap’, sustain and tonal separation, and a slightly ‘drier’ sound than comes from the lack of trem springs. While many players block or otherwise disable the Trem, hard tail Strats never sold like the trem versions have.

Fender American Original 50s Stratocaster Aztec Gold, 2018

Here’s a classy piece – a Fender American Original 50s Stratocaster in Aztec Gold from 2018, in good overall condition with a bit of finish wear. This example shows off how great a metallic gold finish can look! Built with a traditional pairing of an Ash body with Maple neck, the American Original 50s Stratocaster brings back the 1959 style, with a single layer pickguard and three matching Pure Vintage ’59 Single-Coil Strat pickups.

SOLD!‼ Fender Telecaster Natural Finish, 1983

The 1983 Fender Telecaster Natural Finish seen here is from the closing days of CBS ownership of Fender and the end of production in Fullerton, California. This 1983 example of the Fender Telecaster Natural is in overall good condition, with a few non-original components. The original pickups were replaced with Fender Noiseless models, and the tuners have been swapped for modern Fender tuners.

Fender The Strat Olympic White and Gold, 1982

At the end of the 1970s it was apparent that the classic models needed updating and the Fender ‘The Strat’ model appeared in 1980 with this aim. Built from 1980 to 1983, towards the end of the CBS period, The Strat featured an ash body, solid colours and matching (small) headstocks, a gold plated heavy brass bridge and control knobs, and revised wiring with the second tone control replaced with a two-position rotary switch.
